“WE ARE OCEAN, Marseille”
The project WE ARE OCEAN Marseille contained three parts: school workshops with the French artist Marc Johnson, outdoor film screenings with a panel discussion on the Plage du Prophète and a performance with school students created by the artist in collaboration with the Institut Pythéas, L’école élementaire de la Roseraie et la Mairie du 1-3 (Marseille). The performance (Corallian Theater/Théâtre Corallien, 2020) created by Marc Johnson in collaboration with the students was produced following a week workshop with 2 classes from the Roseraie elementary school. The main theme focuses on how to preserve the Ocean as an all including its living organisms. The performance and the interdisciplinary project are connected with an event at the Plage du Prophète as part of Surfrider Foundation’s Ciné’Ma Plage with film screenings (“WE ARE OCEAN Berlin” by Lisa Rave and WE ARE OCEAN short films program) and an interdisciplinary roundtable with the artist Marc Johnson, ocean scientists Daniela Banaru (Mediterranean Institute for Oceanography), Thierry Pérez (CNRS, Institut Pythéas) and Julie Chenot (Camargo Foundation), moderated by Anne-Marie Melster. The project is part of ARTPORT_WE ARE OCEAN which will continue at the IUCN World Congress in 2021. The project is an official project of the UN Decade of Ocean Sciences for Sustainable Development (2021-2030) Preparatory Phase.
