Anne-Marie Melster

As an international interdisciplinary curator and advisor, Anne-Marie Melster has made a name for herself in the field of art and climate and ocean action through numerous interdisciplinary art projects with ARTPORT_making waves. Since 2006 she has collaborated with internationally renowned artists (Tʼuyʼtʼtanat-Cease Wyss, Olafur Eliasson, Tino Sehgal, Barthélémy Toguo, Tue Greenfort, Arafa Hamadi, Insa Winkler. et al), institutions (UNESCO, IUCN, NYU Abu Dhabi, Grand Palais Paris, Kunstmuseum Bonn, etc.) and companies, to raise awareness and create agency for climate and ocean action through the arts, particularly among young people. She has created art programs for various climate conferences since 2009. Each of these programs involves entire cities in various locations to address civil society as well as the delegates, thereby contributing to social change. In 2019 she launched the WE ARE OCEAN Global Program which has been endorsed by UNESCO as a UN Decade of Ocean Science for Sustainable Development (2021-2030) project until 2030. WE ARE OCEAN projects have been implemented in many places worldwide (i.e. Berlin, Hamburg, Palma de Mallorca, Honduras, Tanzania, Denmark, Venice, Marseille, Glasgow, The Netherlands, Nice), bringing together art, marine science and informal education for Ocean Literacy. Some of the WE ARE OCEAN projects were part of Conferences like the Stockholm+50 Conference, IUCN World Conservation Congress Marseille, COP Biodiversity Montreal, UN Ocean Decade Conference Barcelona, the first German Conference of the Sea (Dt. Meereskonferenz), the UN Ocean Conference UNOC3 in Nice.

Last but not least, she is one of the curatorial pioneers at the interface of art and climate change.

She also has been a guest lecturer at the Academy of Fine Arts (Polytechnic University of Valencia), the University of Hamburg and the Universidad Veritas in San José, Costa Rica and was collaborating with the Ringling College of Art + Design, Sarasota in Florida.

She is a Member of the German Ocean Decade Committee since 2024 and a Salzburg Global Seminar Fellow.
