Julia Moritz

Julia Moritz is an independent curator, art educator and critic (artandand.org). She was the Head of Education at Gropius Bau in Berlin and Curator of Theory at Kunsthalle Zurich. Before that she headed the department
MAYBE EDUCATION AND PUBLIC PROGRAMS at dOCUMENTA (13). As curator of the University of Lüneburg, she was responsible for the exhibitions and the program of the university’s art space, where she began teaching art history and theory. Accompanied by study visits to the Art Academy in Vienna, the Whitney Independent Studies Program in New York and the Montehermoso Art and Research Center in Bilbao, she completed her doctoral thesis on institutional conditions of contemporary art at the Freie Universität in Berlin. Moritz also worked for major international exhibitions such as Manifesta 7 in Trentino / South Tyrol (with Anselm Franke, Hila Peleg, Adam Budak and Raqs Media Collective) and the German Pavilion at the 52nd Venice Biennale (with Nicolaus Schafhausen). Her publication The Question of the Day (with Nicolaus Schafhausen) gives insights into her reflection on this work, which she started at the European
Kunsthalle project in Cologne. She also always pursued transdisciplinary collaborations, such as the collaborative film project Nancy Halt on the relationship between land art and feminism. Presented for example at the Statements section of Art Basel 2019.
