Finally, we are able to present our dear project “WE ARE OCEAN Marseille” with artist Marc Johnson and curator Anne-Marie Melster to the international community of world conservationists as part of the IUCN World Congress in September in Marseille and to the audience of Marseille. Here is already a glimpse into our events:

Saturday, 04 September 2021, 12:30 – 14:00 hrs: Screening of the WE ARE OCEAN Curated Film Program at the Central Stage of the IUCN World Congress, Parc Chanot (limited to accredited persons) with a short open panel discussion between the curator Anne-Marie Melster and the marine biologist Thierry Pérez from Institut Pythéas and CNRS France.

Monday, 06 September 2021, 16:00-17:00 hrs, Salle Sourde, Espaces Générations Nature, Parc Chanot : World Premiere of Marc Johnson’s short film “WE ARE OCEAN Théâtre Corallien” with the pupils from Ecole de la Roseraie Marseille at the (free access, no registration needed)

Tuesday, 07 September 2021, 10:00 – 11:00 hrs, Mini Agora 3, Espaces Générations Nature, Parc Chanot: Fishbowl Discussion: Curator Anne-Marie Melster will discuss with scientists from the University of Western Brittany (UBO, project partner organization) Denis Bailly, Florence Menez, and Christine Paillard, on the importance of collaboration between artists and scientists in the field of ocean literacy.

The “WE ARE OCEAN Marseille” project by ARTPORT_making waves brought together different stakeholders (artists, scientists, students, and their teachers) in 2020 to work with young students from the Roseraie School in Marseille on the protection of the Ocean.

Literature and drawing workshops by artist Marc Johnson prepared the young people for a theatre piece.

The project is part of the global “WE ARE OCEAN” program which is organized in several regions of the world to support the United Nations Ocean Decade.
